8.- Fighting for the vocation of the candidate.
Another conviction is to dream in each possible candidate a future Brother of the Holy Family, fighting for his vocation against all odds, without giving up until the end, until all possibilities have been exhausted. In principle, all those we meet and show interest are possible candidates, even if not all are accepted, according to the agreed selection criteria; but without forgetting either that there is no perfect candidate.
Apart
from praying for them, being in contact with them, following them and
insisting, supporting them in their difficulties and processes so that they can
overcome problems and explaining to the families so that they are convinced
that being a Brother of the Holy Family is something good; it is convenient to
take into account, so as not to fall into illusions and disappointments, that
the discovery and development of the vocation in the candidates is a process
that takes time. We, as vocation promoters, have to take into account certain
elements of this process to help them get on the right track and finally they arrive
at their destination.
Throughout the vocational
process, there are various key moments where the person must make decisions,
influenced by both individual factors (personal strengths or dynamics) and
environmental factors (family, social, educational, ecclesial requirements or
opportunities). If a person successfully faces the diverse tasks of the
earliest periods of his development, he will also be successful in the tasks he
carries out in later periods. Vocational development is a special aspect of a
person's process, a dynamic process that influences, and is influenced by, a
person's social, intellectual, emotional, and religious development.
Some of the most important elements in personal development are:
* Being able to live and guide actions according to
certain human and Christian values.
* Learning to act responsibly, taking responsibility
for the consequences of one's decisions.
* Respect: consideration, sharing, expecting what can really be
given, accepting differences, possibilities and limitations.
* Self-knowledge of motives, desires, ambitions and feelings; one's
own virtues and defects, the impulses of selfishness and aspirations for
solidarity; the ability to participate effectively in society.
* Self-esteem: healthy self-esteem. The person who loves himself is
capable of giving love to others.
* Social adaptation. The love received from parents leads to being in
harmony and living with confidence in the midst of a complex and changing
society.
* Being productive and
happy. To be able to use one's
abilities in a productive activity and to do so with commitment and enthusiasm.
Giving oneself produces happiness.
* Accepting and giving
affection to others. Being sensitive to
the needs and feelings of others, and to establish satisfactory relationships
of friendship.
* Serenity: fruit of the security and confidence in oneself.
Psychological
and spiritual growth are deeply related: spiritual growth
postulates a certain psychological health
so that the Christian commitment is made in the due clarity; on the other hand,
a true spiritual growth contributes to a healthy psychic maturity.
* A life project committed
to God´s love germinates much more easily if the subject is inwardly free of
anxieties and guilt complexes; and self-esteem projects him or her into the
future in a realistic way.
* A life project that does
not intend the search for immediate satisfaction will be better assumed and
lived by people who know how to tolerate frustration, accept conflicts and
crises, and rejoice with successes.
* A life project that
demands a self-denial in favor of people, will be assimilated by individuals
who are open, generous and attentive to others.
* A life project that
demands a relationship with a transcendent You will be easy for a person with
interpersonal communication skills, flexible and tolerant.
* Only a life project that
leads us to be persons, in the broad and demanding sense of the term, can serve
as a basis for acquiring the commitment to live the life of a Brother of the
Holy Family. [1]
What do you do to fight for the vocation of
the candidates you follow?
What elements of personal psychological and
spiritual growth do you think are most necessary to cultivate in the candidates
you accompany?
